Yana Ross grew up in Latvia and spent her childhood between Europe, Russia and USA. After graduation with an MFA from Yale School of Drama in 2006, Ross collaborated with Nobel laureate, Elfriede Jelinek, directing her plays Sleeping Beauty and Bambiland. She continues to work internationally from Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz to Seoul Performing Arts Festival in South Korea. Ross is a recipient of a prestigious Fulbright Fellowship. Recently awarded Best Director in Torun International Festival Kontakt 2016, Best Director (plus 7 nominations), Seagull, Iceland 2016, Best Director Uncle Vanya, Sweden 2015, Best Director (plus 11 nominations), Our Class, Lithuania 2014. From 2019 to 2023 Ross is part of the permanent artistic team of Schauspielhaus Zürich, Switzerland.

Ross discusses her stagings of Lithuania’s difficult pasts in the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre and the State Youth Theatre.
